News of IEC International Group Meeting on Agricultural Lighting

On February 16, 2023, the IEC International Group on Agricultural Lighting held a meeting, which was hosted by Zhang Wei (Beijing Electric Light Research Institute Co., Ltd./National Electric Light Quality Supervision and Inspection Center (Beijing)), and attended by Chinese experts He Dongxian (China Agricultural University), Li Qian (Hangzhou Yuanyuan Photoelectric Information Co., Ltd.) and Wang Chong (Beijing Electric Light Research Institute Co., Ltd.). The meeting focused on the development of several international standards in the field of light radiation for plant cultivation.

The meeting made further detailed communication on the committee document (CD) of IEC 63403-1 ED1 "LED packages for horticultural lighting – Part 1: Specification sheet" and IEC 63403-2 ED1 "LED packages for horticultural lighting – Part 2: Binning (LED packages for horticultural lighting – Part 2: Sorting)" and the proposed handling of the comments of various national standards committees. The participating experts discussed and agreed on the modification opinions and framework adjustment scheme proposed by the Chinese experts, and agreed that the two IEC standard projects entered the committee voting stage (CDV), and the Chinese experts will follow up as the project leader.

The meeting introduced the progress of PWI 34-7 "LED light sources and luminaires for short-term lighting – Performance" and PWI 34-9 "LED luminaire for short-term lighting – Safety". For the two projects with the theme of "safety requirements for lamps and lanterns for plant cultivation" and "performance requirements for LED lamps and lanterns for plant cultivation", the Chinese experts are responsible for the project. The two project documents have been discussed several times in the IEC international group, and the proposal (NP) preparation work has been completed. It is proposed to launch the proposal work after the corresponding international organizations have confirmed the organization and management mode within the committee in the near future.

The meeting discussed the update of PWI 34-8 "LED light sources for horticultural lighting – Safety" project document, which was assisted by Chinese experts and prepared by Korean experts. The participating experts gave guidance on the further structure and content modification of the document.

The international standard project of Optical Radiation Terminology for Plant Cultivation, which is headed by Chinese experts, will enter the international standard draft stage (DIS) in the near future; The three national standard projects launched synchronously in the field of light radiation for plant cultivation have also entered the standard drafting stage (interested units and experts can go to understand the project situation).
